Dressage News: In Brief

Lendon Gray's Weekend Educational Program
by Jaime Swarthout

Lendon Gray’s third annual weekend educational program took place the Saturday and Sunday of January 22 and 23. Dressage4Kids Inc. and the Post University Equine Program paired up to produce a weekend packed with seminars and lectures designed to benefit young dressage and eventing enthusiasts, their parents, and their trainers.

The program featured experts covering subjects important to competitors, parents, trainers, and Pony Clubbers and instructors aiming towards certification. Special panelists included Beth Clarke, an equine lawyer and financial manager; Mimi Dickerson, sponsor of international horse, and CEO of Equifest; Rebecca Schurink of Mt. Holyoke Equestrian; Natasha Tarasov, owner of the Horse Connectin, and many others. The responsibility of these speakers was to lecture on important points that all equestrians should understand if they wish to be involved in the equine business or become successful in their riding. The central theme of the weekend was to focus on “Helping the horse and rider along the road to FEI.”

The lectures were held at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut, and varied from ‘Assessing Horses to Buy’ to ‘Evolution and Your Horse – What Makes Him Tick’ to ‘Do Horses and College Mix’ (an especially prevalent subject for young riders).

Aside from lectures, riders were also offered clothing sales (whose proceeds went to programs including scholarships for Equestrian Education) and other activities such as dinners and more.
