Accidental Gymnastics (shared by Jaime)

My friend and I were riding in a lesson in our huge outdoor arena, and my horse, Ty, was feeling especially hyper. I got down to change into a stronger bit, and (apparently) didn't make sure that my reins were secure enough. I got on, trotted a bit, and just Ty decided to leap into a gallop one of my reins snapped off. I was totally out of control, and we galloped around right towards my friend who was just sitting on her horse. Ty had no idea where he was going, and I couldn't tell him to turn, so: we ran right into my my friend's horse, stopping Ty flat and catapulting me over the back of my friend's horse. We were all rather surprised. And my ego was quite bruised.

My Horse Has All the Brains (shared by Catie)

It was my first (second maybe?) day of owning Mikey, and I'm putting him out on the crossties, and I go to take off his blanket. All is going well -- there are a bunch of people (among them, my coach, my coach's wife -- a big name hunter rider -- and some other boarders), chatting about how nice Mikey is, etc, etc. Well I go to take off his blanket and forgot about the hind leg straps, so when I pulled off the blanket he was basically wearing a skirt. So I try to pull the blanket back up over his rump, and he steps back. I try to move him forward, with no luck. Mikey, being a super genius, backs up and lifts his feet up till he's out of the blanket, then moves off to the side so I can pull it away from under his dear feet. Now this wouldn't have been quite so bad, except that all those people were standing there watching and I felt like I had been judged unfit to own and handle such a horse.

Inevitable (shared by Courtney)

A while ago I was riding the little Arab my trainer has and I was jumping some fences. I was getting every distance, beautiful, la la la -- then I see the dressage trainer at our barn is getting in her car next to the arena, and she will see me, so I thought, I better get a good distance to this next fence. Well, say goodbye to impressing her! I got this awful chip to the jump and I was totally all popped out of my tack, bad!

I was riding this same horse and was jumping him, but all the jumps were really low, so I got off to raise them. Well, I wasn't holding the reins because he usually just stands still next to you. However, as I was rasing the jump he took off out of the arena and back to the barn area. I found him eating hay from the haybarn next to his stall.
